"Hello and welchome to my Euro-come presentation about the legend of the loreley.
First im gonna tell you soething about the storry of loreley, and after that I'll tell you something about the truth behind it.
The Legend of loreley is about a really beautifull girl or mermaid who sits on a rock on the river rine. She sings really beautifull and all sailors fall in love with her, but when they trie to reach her they keel over at the rocks and dye.

There are a lot of different storrys about the loreley. The first one was written by clemens Brentans in 1801. In his versischn of the loreley she was an really beautifull girl. Because of her beauty a lot of men fell in love with her, and people started thinking that she's a witch. The bishop was supposed to announce her execution, but he couldn't because of her beauty so he decides she should spend her life as a nun. On the way to the monastery she asked the knights who accompanied her, to let her climb on a really huge rock, so she could look down on the river one last time. Loreley was a really sad girl, her lover had left her and she was tired of living, so she trew herself down and dyed.
In 1824 heinrich heine writes a pohem about  the loreley and it got really famous, later on Friedrich Silcher alsow composed a melody for it in 1847.

Now I'll tell you something about the truth behind the storry, and I'll start with the name.
There are a lot of different ways to interpret the name Loreley. In celtic Ley means Rock and in old high german Lure means ambush, so you could call the rock of loreley an lurking rock, but in old german Lore means mumbeling so the name of the rock could be mumbeling rock. Mumbeling rock, because a long time ago you could hear an echo there, because of tunnels and rock overhangs, but they are gone by now. In Middle high german Lure means Fary, so you can alsow understand it as the farys rock.

The rock of the loreley is a slate rock. it is 132m high and it is a remarkable land mark for al the shippers of the river. it also marks one of the moust  dangerous places of the river rine. Near the rock the water is 25 meters deep and with this it is the second deepest place of the hole river and it is alsow only 00 meters wide, so the water flows really fast. back in the day it was even more dangerous because there was a big dandbank and a vew really dangerous rocks in the river , but they got blown up durning the last century. The tunnels who caused an eco alsow got destoried when the railways were build there.   Maaaaan ich bin müüüüüde XP"
